May 2016 Dividend Update

IMG_20140719_134110

So here we are, May is almost over and “strangely” I do not have a lot of dividends that have not been paid into the account yet… All the proceedings that had to arrive did so, and therefore I can update the dividend situation well in advance compared to the past.

This is the first “record”, actually there is a more important record that I am reporting today, May 2016 has been the most prolific month since the journey started in terms of Dividends! A grand total of 1237 Euro (at the time of writing, the total will be different day to day because of exchange rate) was paid into the account this month!

Actually I am cheating a little with this record, mostly because I have to change the way dividends are reported into the spreadsheet that I have. Before I was getting dividends “already taxes” by the Italian government, today I am reporting the “almost gross” dividends and taxes have a separate entry. This is due to two main reasons:

A. The new broker that I am moving to (see here) doesn’t calculate Italian taxes, I will have to do that at the end of the fiscal year

B. It’s an actually more accurate form of reporting as I can see how much Italian taxes dig into the performance of my portfolio (a LOT actually…)

But the graph at the end of the post tells it all, and the comparison has been made with the same reporting system, so there!

Third record is the fact that in 5 months I have managed to get as many dividends as last year. This is “as usual” because at the same time last year the portfolio was still mostly cash and therefore comparisons are not exactly in favour of 2015.

Without much ado, here’s the list of the payers:

BPOP 2022 – EUR 105.38
LON:OML – GBP 71.88
NRZ – USD 99.71
FRA:BAS – EUR 64.05
T – USD 32.64
VZ – USD 21.61
LON:PSON – GBP 39.10
EPA:MMB – EUR 59.15
LON:BATS – GBP 40.79
EPA:SAN – EUR 51.28
OKE – USD 15.68
BIT:CMB – EUR 34.50
O – USD 4.23
PG – USD 36.99
PET 23 – USD 262.50
LON:IRV – GBP 63.14
BIT:SFER – EUR 25.30
BIT:ATL – EUR 21.60
BIT:G – EUR 57.60
BIT:SRG – EUR 57.50
BIT:ENI – EUR 56.00

Another important point is the fact that I have gotten 2 bonds payments this month, they account for almost a 1/4th of the total proceedings.

Moving on…

  1. 1237 is a decent income, even when it is gross. How much do you donate of that to the Italian taxes?

I like the stock called ATL… 🙂 I quickly looked at it, seems to be a decent infrastructure company… Maybe for the fun, I should get some stock of it.

    1. Ciao ATL,
26% is the hefty chunk that the Italian government requires from my coffers… Unless I change my fiscal residence (and I am also considering that!!) there is no way around it…. 😦

Atlantia (ATL) is actually a great stock which you should consider for dividends. Basically it’s an Utility as they are responsible of the highway tolls and roadworks here in Italy. A private monopoly. Boring and repetitive, so a good pick for dividends! 🙂 (and pays dividend TWICE, which I totally love, in Europe we have this thing of paying dividends all in one shot…)

  2. Congrats on having a fantastic month. 1237 Euro is a lot of money for doing absolutely nothing. Have you thought about just calculating the total dollar amount without converting to Euro so you don’t have to worry about the exchange rate? That’s what I’m doing with our dividend income, not converting dividends received in US back to CAN currency.

    1. Ciao Tawcan,
Yes absolutely a lot of money I cannot complain at all! 🙂 As to the dividends in dollars and GBP, I have thought about keeping things separated, but it forces me to come up with more complex reporting and having everything under one currency makes things much more easy, but it’s a nice idea, I’ll play around with the graphs a little, let’s see what can I come up with… 🙂

  3. Hey Stal, huge congrats on all the dividends. Getting over 1K is a really nice month, more than double what we get in a year haha. I hope the change is a good one for you, with the different broker. Good luck!

    1. Ciao Tristan,
Yes, I cannot complain about the result, finally after 1 and half year, with full capital deployed I start to see some numbers falling into place… I think I will still need 2 years to have the machine going at full speed, but patience is paying off 🙂
ciao and thanks for stopping by!

  4. That’s a very solid income for the month of May even if taxes are not taken from the figure. You are doing very well and being paid by a nice diverse list of companies. Of course, I am familiar with some of your dividend payers but not all. It’s always interesting to see the various companies form around the world that pay dividends. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Ciao DH,
Thanks for stopping by! Let’s say I am giving back to the community what I took at the beginning 🙂 Results will be easier to evaluate next year, when the comparison will be between two “fully deployed” years, but I cannot complain so far! 🙂
